Friday walk through Sudeley Castle

I love Sudeley Castle, Katherine's last home, and I've been lucky enough to wander its walls and gardens many times. Every Friday, I'm going to take a walk (well, a virtual one at least) through its beauty. And I'm starting with one of my favourite views, the door of the church where Katherine is buried.

St. Mary's at Sudeley is pretty enough at the best of times but in the height of summer, its ancient portal is surrounded by the dreamy blooms of white hydrangeas. They are spectacularly beautiful and add another sense of calm to this oasis of tranquility.

Of course, like all hydrangeas, they love water and a dry summer trims their glory a little. These photos are from July 2017 when the rain had been plentiful enough to produce a fabulous display. I like to think of Katherine stopping to admire the flowers in the gardens of Sudeley in the time she spent there. No summer walk at Sudeley is complete without a moment of reflection in front of the church and its glorious white hydrangeas.
