It's a question that Katherine Parr herself would never have had to answer? How come I had so much time during 2020, thanks to lockdowns, and I still didn't do half of what I wanted? Us mere mortals can only contemplate that. Katherine, of course, would have put all the time to admirable use. She would have busied about all her duties, kept on top of everything in a calm and clever manner and probably found something to be mildly revolutionary about, changed a long held principle for the better and made everyone look the other way while she was doing it. That's the kind of woman we are dealing with. She's inspired me to spend every day of the year to come asking - what would Katherine Parr do?
Right now, she'd probably finish making the cup of tea I started 10 minutes ago. Or she would at least convince some passing person to do it for her in such a way that they learn something about themselves and emerge from the experience all the better for it. Katherine is hugely inspirational and also slightly annoying. That is why I like her so much. I've spent years reading and thinking about her. In 2021, I am going to be more more Katherine and just get busy with it.
This blog will be where I share my thoughts about her. Some of them are ordinary, some of them are odd, some of them are plain batty. But I hope you will enjoy the chat with me. I think Katherine is one of the most amazing figures in English history and certainly one of our greatest queens consort. I was lucky enough to spend some of 2020 in Winchchome and at Sudeley, where she once lived and where she is buried. I find that inspirational, too. I'll share more of my photos along with my thoughts as this blog grows. So that's the first post done, the intentions laid out. In 365 days time we may even be closer to the answer to the question - what would Katherine Parr do?
